Niyi Akinmolayan

Niyi Akinmolayan was born in Lagos, Nigeria. His first feature was a Kajola in 2009. He has since gone on to make more critically acclaimed features and documentaries. He also runs Nigeria’s biggest post-production studio for film and television; ANTHILL studios. In 2016 he made one of the best movies of the year “The Arbitration” which was selected for the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Omoni Oboli is a Nigerian actress, scriptwriter, director and producer. A gifted writer and a trained digital filmmaker at the New York Film Academy. She has several intriguing screenplays to her credit: including ‘Fatal Imagination’, ‘Being Mrs Elliott’, ‘The First Lady’ and ‘Wives on Strike’. In 2010 she won the Best Actress – Narrative Feature award at the Los Angeles Movie Awards and the award for Best Actress at the Harlem International Film Festival. Omoni was nominated for the Best Actress in a Leading Role award at the 2011 Africa Movie Academy Awards. In 2014, Omoni won the Big Screen Actress of the Year award, at the 2014 ELOY Awards, for her movie Being Mrs Elliott. In 2015, Omoni was awarded the Sun Nollywood Personality of the Year. She is a talent behind the camera as a Director. , formerly Lions of ’76, is a 2016 Nigerian historical fiction drama film produced by Adonaijah Owiriwa and Izu Ojukwu and directed by Izu Ojukwu. It stars Ramsey Nouah, Chidi Mokeme, Rita Dominic, and Ibinabo Fiberesima. Set six years after the civil war, a young officer from the Middle Belt gets into a romantic relationship with an O-level student from the Southeastern region. However, their relationship is strained by constant military postings. The soldier gets accused of being involved in the 1976 unsuccessful military coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed, and the heavily pregnant wife gets entangled in an emotional dilemma. The historical account in ’76 went through a seven-month approval period at the Nigerian Military before filming started. The film which is set in the ’70s was shot in Ibadan, Oyo. The film has been in production for about five years. Kanayo, Fabian Adeoye Lojede, Nick Rhys, Kunle Afolayan, Femi Adebayo, Bimbo Manuel, Ibrahim Chatta and introducing Demola Adedoyin; it also features a special appearance from Deola Sagoe. The film, which is set in Colonial Nigeria, narrates the story of Danladi Waziri (Sadiq Daba), a police officer from Northern Nigeria who is posted to the remote town of Akote in Western Nigeria to investigate the frequent female murder cases in the community and have the mystery solved before the Nigerian flag is raised on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day. The critically acclaimed movie gained so much praise from both viewers and film critics within and outside Nigeria.
